Famous String Tied Meat Bah Kut Teh

A popular local delight, Bak Kut Teh, is the main focus of this restaurant. Bah Kut the is a Chinese herbal pork soup that was introduced into Malaya in the 19th century. At the time it was eaten by Chinese manual labourers as a tonic to maintain their health and strength. These days, it’s enjoyed by people from all walks of life. Nevertheless, the various herbs used in the dish have well recognised medicinal and tonic effects, and some regard the dish as not just a meal but a health supplement.

At Pao Xiang, the meat is tied with string in the traditional way before cooking, as this keeps its shape and flavour while purportedly rendering the fat during cooking. House specialities here include Bak Kut Teh, Sui Kut, Ka Geng, and Pao Hier.
